Elders & Deacons
The Elders oversee church life by setting the overall direction of the church and by establishing, modifying, and/or terminating programs. They also supervise all pastoral staff. To be eligible to serve as an elder, they must have been a Christian for at least three years, and a member of FEFC for one year. For Scriptural support, see 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9. Our elders serve for three years at a time, and are limited to two consecutive terms.
The Deacons establish and maintain contact with the families and individuals in the church and communicate with the pastors regarding any issues. They also maintain unity and peace, and ensure that none are neglected in the church's ministry. They are responsible for the preparation and serving of communion, as well as for the administration of the deacons' fund, which is used for aid to persons and families in financial difficulties and for other charitable ministries. They meet monthly with the pastoral staff and bi-monthly with the elders. To be eligible to serve as a deacon, they must have been a Christian for at least 3 years and a member of FEFC for one year. For Scriptural support, see Acts 6:3, and 1 Timothy 3:8-12. Our deacons serve for three years at a time and are limited to two consecutive terms.
Elder/Deacon Prayer
The spiritual leadership of FEFC includes a board of Elders (who oversee the spiritual vision, program and ministries of the church) and a board of Deacons (who assist the pastors in caring for the needs of the people). The elders and deacons gather together regularly to pray specifically for the corporate and individual needs within the church. In addition, the elders are sometimes called upon to anoint and pray over the sick, according to James 5:13-20. We have seen the Lord do mighty things among us when we are faithful to his command to pray.
